Happy Thanksgiving

Posted @ 6:47 pm by Evan

Just as our forefathers paused to give thanks for the freedom and bounty of America 385 years ago, we reflect on the many good fortunes that have come to us. Our many affilate Radio Stations in 9-states that carry our morning and mid-day programs, the ladies and gentlemen who put us on the air, we really appreciate you. And to our diversified listening audience, we consider you a part of our family. And let us not forget the advertisers who make it all possible, Thank You.

The past 7-days have been most gratifying, starting a week ago today in Kansas City, MO at the annual National Association of Broadcasters Convention where Orin Samuleson, Roddy Peeple and myself were recognized for our 50 years each talking to and with the people on the land, who help make for the good life for all the rest of us. We three were in the class of 1956 when we were convening in Chicago.

Flying home in my Mooney 252 last Saturday, I had to time to reflect on what a ride it has been as I looked down on the combines winding up the corn, sorghum and sunflower harvest. In my over 48 years broadcasting from Denver as home base, many of you know I air my total programs wherever my travels take me in the many states, several Canadian Proviences, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand.
In 22-and-half years we established farm & ranch programming on two Denver Radio Stations (KHOW & KLZ) and wound up at 50,000 watt KOA for nearly 9-years, where I never planned to go. With the three Radio Stations we had 8-different owners, a dozen General Mangagers and two dozen Program Directors, you talk about crop rotation. It was like riding a bucking bronc. Additionally we set up Agriculture Programming on the Intermountain Network (90 Radio Stations in 11 States) in 1972. And the Evan Slack Network established in May 1985.

So much for a little background on me. It was good to get home in time to cover the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union Convention and the Colorado Farm Bureau Annual Meeting and mix it up with my loyal listening Radio Family.

You bet I’m humbled and most thankfull for you all.

Till next time, wishing you all the best,

Evan

Greetings from Kansas City, Mo. We’re here attending the annual National Association of Farm Broadcasting. I’ve been a member since 1956. It’s an opportunity to renew old friendships and get to know young womem and men involved in agriculture.

While here I will be interviewing several leaders in the agriculture industry. Talking to invividuals involved in the manufacture
and sales of products and services. As we say in Radio, please stay tuned to your favorite Radio Station to hear some of the folks we have interviewed.
